W ramach lunchu polecam zjeść ciasteczka tradycyjne dla Sintry w fabryce Piriquita.

– Travesseiro de Sintra – lokalne niesamowicie słodkie ciastko z kruchego ciasta francuskiego z nadzieniem jajecznym (to dłuższe);

– Queijada – tycie coś a’la serniczek z cynamonem.

For lunch in Sintra I recommend to eat cookies from traditional Piriquita factory.

What kind of cookies ..?

– Travesseiro de Sintra – Local incredibly sweet cake with brittle French pastry stuffed with egg cream (the longer one);

– Queijada – small cake something like cheese cake with cinnamon.

IV - Sintra - Quinta da Regaleira

Dzisiaj w planach była grana Sintra po raz drugi tym razem z Moniką i Michałem, naszymi gospodarzami. Jak poprzednio droga z dworca Rossio w Lizbonie do Sintry nie zajęła więcej niż 40 minut. Szkoda tylko, że nie wzięliśmy latarek ze sobą bo wtedy zabawa byłaby jeszcze lepsza.

Today the we had Sintra in our plans for the second time, this time with Monika and Michał, our hosts. Same as before, the road from the Rossio train station to Sintra did not take more than 40 minutes. It is only a pity that we didn’t take flashlights with us because then we would have even more fun.

Quinta da Regaleira znajduje się na liście światowego dziedzictwa UNESCO. Pałac jest znany również jako „Pałac Monteiro Milionera” od przydomku właściciela jakim był António Augusto Carvalho Monteiro.

Quinta da Regaleira is stated on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The palace is also known as " Palace of Monteiro the Millionaire ", from the nickname of its first owner, António Augusto Carvalho Monteiro.

Jest to prześliczny malowniczy gotycki zamek z mnóstwem podziemnych przejść w ogrodzie. Tam też można podziwiać prześliczną małą kaplicę jak również prawie podziemne jezioro. Ktoś, kto to budował musiał naprawdę mieć fantazję!

Mnóstwo tajnych przejść, wieżyczek i zakamarków. Jest to wisienka na torcie zwiedzania całej Sintry.

It is a lovely picturesque gothic castle with loads of underground passages in the garden. There you can also admire the lovely small chapel as well as almost underground lake. The guy who built all of these had a really great imagination!

Lots of secret passages, towers and corners. This is the icing on the cake of the whole trip to Sintra.

III - Sintra - Palácio de Monserrate

Bardzo się cieszę, z tej pomyłki z mapą kolegi. Dzięki temu udało nam się dotrzeć do tego do tej pory najładniejszego miejsca w Sintrze. Letniskowy domek bardzo mały ale ślicznie zdobiony, rzeźbiony a do tego wspaniały ogród.

I am really happy because of this mistake with my friend’s map. Thanks to that we were able to see the most beautiful place in Sintra so far. This summer house is pretty small but beautifully carved and decorated. The Japanese Garden is wonderful as well.

Palácio de Monserrate został zbudowany w 1858 roku dla sir Francisa Cooka, angielskiego baroneta, szlachcica wyższego stopnia.

Jeśli macie mało czasu możecie dać sobie spokój ze zwiedzaniem Murów Maurów ale Monserrate jest obowiązkowe :-)

Palácio de Monserrate was built in 1858 for Sir Francis Cook, an English baronet.

If you don’t have much time you can easily omit the Moorish Castle but you can’t omit this masterpiece :-)

II - Sintra - Parque & Palácio da Pena

Pałac ten znajduje się na najwyższym szczycie Serra de Sintra. Można go odnaleźć na liście światowego dziedzictwa UNESCO a także jest jednym z siedmiu cudów Portugalii. Został wybudowany na ruinach klasztoru Hieronimitów, założonego w XVI wieku. Wystrój zamku został zachowany dokładnie tak jak mieszkała w nim rodzina królewska w XIX wieku.

Na zwiedzanie tego cudownego miejsca zdecydowanie trzeba poświęcić ok. 2 godzin.

The palace is located on the highest peak of the hill called Serra de Sintra. It is placed on the UNESCO World Heritage Site and it is as well one of the Seven Wonders of Portugal. The palace was built on the ruins of the Jeronimos Monastery, founded in the XVI century. The decor of the castle has been preserved exactly as it was while royal family was living there in the XIX century.

To explore this wonderful place you definitely need to spend about 2 hours at least.

Co ciekawe historia pałacu zaczyna się już w średniowieczu kiedy to kaplica została dedykowana Naszej Pani z Peny, która właśnie została wybudowana na wzgórzach Sintry. Zgodnie z tradycją budowla pojawiła się zaraz po ukazaniu się Maryi. Intrygujące..

The palace's history started in the Middle Ages when a chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Pena was built on the top of the hill above Sintra. According to tradition, the construction occurred after an apparition of the Virgin Mary. [Wikipedia]

Dziwne jest dla mnie pojęcie przestrzenne dawnych Portugalczyków. O ile place w samej Lizbonie mają ogromne i przestronne o tyle pokoje pałacowe są bardzo malutkie!
Łóżko królewskie to chyba ma jakieś 160 cm długości.

Zwiedzanie pałacu było świetną zabawą zwłaszcza, że za nami szła para dowcipnisiów, którzy przez cały czas dorzucali swoje komentarze.

The concept of space of former Portuguese seems very strange to me. While the squares in Lisbon are huge and spacious the rooms in palace are cramping small – unreasonable!
The king’s bed probably is 160 cm long.

Visiting the palace was a great fun especially since there were a couple of pranksters ahead of us and all the time they were making fancy comments and jokes.

W czasie przerwy na lunch zorientowałyśmy się, że mapka jaką dostałam od kolegi, który tutaj był i polecił nam zwiedzić to nie Zamek Maurów tylko Monsserate i byłyśmy przekonane, że zwiedziłyśmy nie to co nam rekomendowano więc po ogrodach Peny musiałyśmy koniecznie zaliczyć to trzecie miejsce :D

[Jak wróciłyśmy to się okazało, że nasi gospodarze nigdy nie byli w Monsserate a mapka należała do kogoś innego :D]

During the lunch break we realized that the map which I got from a friend who was here and told us to visit the place was not Moorish Castle but Monsserate and we were convinced that we have visited not what we were recommended so after the gardens of Pena we had to include the third place: D

Po lunchu przespacerowałyśmy się ogrodami Peny gdzie miedzy innymi widziałyśmy kaplice, malownicze mostki, stół i tron królowej i małe domki jak dla hobbitów. Park jest jak swego rodzaju labirynt, mnóstwo wąskich dróżek, które mogą doprowadzić do bardzo ciekawych rzeczy – podążaj za mapą:-)

Potem zjechałyśmy do centrum Sintry i poszłyśmy do Palácio de Monserrate.

After the lunch we went for a long walk around the Gardens of Pena where we saw chapels, picturesque bridges, table and throne of the queen and small houses like for hobbits. The park has a labyrinth system of paths and narrow roads, connecting the palace to the many points of interest throughout the park – follow the map :-)

Then we returned to the center of Sintra, and head to the Palácio de Monserrate.

I - Sintra - Castle of the Moors

Na dworcu Rossio wsiadłyśmy do podmiejskiego pociągu aby wyruszyć na zwiedzanie Sintry. Leży ona ok. 40 minut drogi od Lizbony. Jej wyjątkowość polega na tym, że prawie wszyscy królowie portugalscy budowali sobie tutaj letnie rezydencje.

At the Rossio station we took a train to explore Sintra. It is situated approximately 40 minutes away [by train] from Lisbon. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that almost all the kings of the Portugal built summer houses in this area.

Swoją wycieczkę [na piechotę! – super męcząca :D] zaczęłyśmy od wspięcia się na Zamek Maurów – Castelo dos Mouros. Spacer nie był do końca relaksem bo stroma ścieżka była usiana kocimi łbami, ale było warto. Są tu pozostałości murów obronnych mauretańskiej twierdzy. Zamek bardzo ładny.. znaczy się tylko mury bo budynku tutaj żadnego do zwiedzania nie ma :P

Our Sintra trip [on foot! – a super tiring thing to do: D] we started from climbing up to a hill with the Castle of the Moors – Castelo dos Mouros. The walk wasn’t a complete pleasure because the path was really steep and made from small stones but it was worth it. Here are the remains of the Moorish fortress walls. The castle is very nice .. I mean just the walls because the building doesn’t exist anymore :P

Mauretańska twierdza pochodzi z VIII wieku za czasów panowania Arabów na półwyspie Iberyjskim.

Został zdobyty w 1147 roku przez Alfonsa I Zdobywcę – pierwszego króla Portugalii i walczących wraz z nim skandynawskich krzyżowców. Ciągłe nieszczęścia historyczne sprawiały, że zamek był kilka razy odbudowywany.

Moorish fortress dates from the VIII century during the reign of the Arabs in the Iberian Peninsula.

It was captured in 1147 by Alfonso I the Conqueror – the first king of Portugal together with Scandinavian crusaders. Continuous historical misfortunes caused that the castle was rebuilt several times.

Zamek Maurów został Pomnikiem Narodowym Portugalii 23 czerwca 1910 roku .

Przy dobrej pogodzie z zamku roztacza się widok na ocean a także na położony na sąsiednim wzgórzu Palácio da Pena, który był naszym kolejnym punktem wycieczki.

Moorish Castle was named as a National Monument of Portugal on June 23, 1910.

During the days with a good weather, from the castle is a beautiful view on the Adriatic Ocean and surrounding hill where is located Palácio da Pena – our next target.

I - Cascais

Na dworcu Cais do Sodre złapałyśmy pociąg do CASCAIS.

Miasteczko to leży ok. 30 minut drogi od Lizbony nad Oceanem Adriatyckim. Jest to właściwie miejscowość podmiejska z kilkoma małymi plażami dla turystów i miejscowych amatorów słońca.

On the Cais do Sodré station we took the train to CASCAIS.

The town is located around 30 minutes by train from Lisbon on the Adriatic Ocean. This is actually a suburban town with a couple of small beaches for tourists and local fans of the sun.

Idąc deptakiem doszłyśmy nawet do drugiej miejscowości Monte Estoril :D

Delektowanie się pastel de nata na plaży wieczorem to świetny pomysł po całym gorącym i bogatym w wydarzenia dniu :)

Following the promenade we even reached up to the second town Monte Estoril :D

Enjoying pastels de nata on the beach in the evening is a great idea after the whole day packed with so many attractions :)

XVII - Lisbon - Campo Pequeno

Na Campo Pequeno – Praça de Touros do Campo Pequeno – jest tylko czerwona neomauretańska arena korridy ale nie byłyśmy w środku bo czas nas naglił. Jednak warto zobaczyć tę budowlę z oknami w kształcie dziurek od klucza i podwójnymi kopułami gdzie na samych szczytach widnieją półksiężyce.

The Campo Pequeno – Praça de Touros do Campo Pequeno – is a red neomoorish bull fighting arena but we were not able to check the insides, the time was passing by so quickly and we didn’t want to miss the flight. But it’s worth seeing, the building with windows shaped like keyholes and double domes where on the peaks are crescents; incredible.

XVI - Lisbon - Jesus - Cristo Rei

Jako, że tego dnia było w Lizbonie super ciepło bo aż 39C postanowiłyśmy się ochłodzić wchodząc na wzgórze z Jezusem – CRITO REI – kryptonim operacyjny – Dżizas. Wiadomo im bliżej chmur tym zimniej :P

Since that day in Lisbon was pretty hot – around 39C – we decided to cool off by going up a hill with Jesus – CRITO REI – operating codename – Dżizas. Well.. you know.. the closer to the clouds the cooler, right : P

Droga do Jezusa jest złożona. Najpierw trzeba przepłynąć promem na drugą stronę rzeki Tag a potem albo autobusem 101 albo na piechotę 30 minut. My oczywiście jesteśmy hardcorami i wybrałyśmy spacer.

Jezus jest interesujący ale bardzo mały jak już się do niego dojdzie. Dobrze, że ma podwyższenie które jest ok. 4 lub 5 razy większe od niego samego :P

The way to go to Jesus monument is pretty complex. First you have to take the ferry across the river Tagus and then take the bus 101 or go on foot which takes around 30 minutes. We were obviously hard cores in this weather and we walked up the hill.

Jesus monument is pretty interesting but very little when you actually reach the top of the hill. Well.. it’s good that it has a platform which is 4 or 5 times higher than the monument itself :P

Wokół Jezusa są stacje drogi krzyżowej a także piękny widok z bliska na most 25 kwietnia – Ponte 25 de Abril – kryptonim operacyjny –San Francisco.

Around the Jesus monument are located the Stations of the Cross Path and a beautiful view up from on the April 25 Bridge – Ponte 25 de Abril – operating codename – San Francisco.

XV - Lisbon - Oriente - Oceanarium

Ostatni dzień wycieczki po Lizbonie spędziłyśmy w Oceanarium w dzielnicy Oriente. Byłyśmy na obu wystawach: tymczasowej żółwi (superancka!) i zwyklej -> duży zbiornik wodny, w którym pływają najróżniejsze ryby zarówno ławice, jak i rekiny czy płaszczki.

The last day of the trip to Lisbon we spent in Oceanarium in the Oriente district. We’ve seen both shows: temporary one – turtles (awesome!) and the basic one -> large tank of water with a lot of different species. Even if you’re not a biology fan it’s worth visiting.

Na poszczególnych piętrach były też mniejsze zbiorniki z jamochłonami, wydrami czy fajnymi kapiącymi się ptaszkami – to może mało naukowy termin ale nie pamiętam ich właściwej nazwy :D

On each floor were located also smaller tanks with coelenterates, otters and these cool birds which are presented in the picture – for sure they have a science, formal, proper name but I have no idea what it is: D

XIV - Lisbon - Oriente

Oriente pięknie wygląda nocą.. zwłaszcza oświetlony dworzec metra, który znajduje się naprzeciwko centrum handlowego Vasco da Gama.
Stacje metra w środku też są udekorowane interesująco.

Oriente looks beautiful at night.. especially subway station – with phenomenal lights – which is located opposite the Vasco da Gama shopping centre.
Subway stations inside have interesting decorations as well.

XIII - Lisbon - Belém - Belém Tower

Torre de Belém - Kiedyś wieża ta stała na środku rzeki Tag. Był tutaj magazyn broni i więzienie. W czasach wielkich odkryć geograficznych wieża pełniła nie tylko funkcje militarne ale również była punktem orientacyjnym dla wracających do ojczyzny żeglarzy i symbolem morskiej potęgi Portugalii.

Torre de Belém – This tower once stood in the middle of the river Tagus. There was placed an armory storage and prison. In times of great geographical discoveries the tower had not only military significance but also was a landmark for sailors returning to their homeland as well as a symbol of Portugal's marine power.

Obecnie widać jak rzeka wysycha bo budowla znajduje się praktycznie na brzegu. To również może być spowodowane tym, że po już wspominanym trzęsieniu ziemi w 1755r. rzeka nieco zmieniła koryto.
Jest ona przepięknym dziełem wykonanym w stylu manuelińskim. W 1983r. została wpisana na listę światowego dziedzictwa UNESCO.

Currently, you can see how the river dries up because the building is located practically on the shore. It also may be due to the earthquake in 1755 that was mentioned in previous posts. River channel has changed somewhat since that event.
It is a beautiful work made in the manueline style. Since 1983 is on the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
