VII - Lisbon - Baixa/Bario Alto - Santa Justa Lift

Elementem wartym zwiedzenia jest również winda Santa Justa – Elevador de Santa Justa. Wybudowana przez ucznia Eiffela – Raula Mesniera du Ponsarda. Dzięki niej można wjechać do starej dzielnicy położonej obok czyli Bario Alto. Jest to najstarsza pionowa widna, ukończona została w 1902 r.

The element of the visit which is worth seeing is Santa Justa Lift – Elevador de Santa Justa. It was designed and built by the student of Eiffel – [the same guy who built the Tower in Paris :)] his name was Raul Mesnier du Ponsard. It is not only a historical monument but also a mean of transport which can takes you to the other nearby district – Bario Alto. This is the only remaining vertical one. It was built in 1902.

Z tarasu widokowego windy można obejrzeć ruiny gotyckiego klasztoru karmelitów – Convento da Ordem do Carmo. Obecnie służy on za żywą pamiątkę trzęsienia ziemi i tsunami z 1755 r. Natomiast w środku znajduje się siedziba Muzeum Archeologicznego.

From the observation deck on the top of elevator can be seen ruins of a gothic monastery of the Carmelites – Convento da Ordem do Carmo. Currently it is a vivid example of the earthquake and tsunami from 1755. Inside there are headquarters of the Archaeological Museum.

VI - Lisbon - Baixa - Botanical garden

Dzisiejszy dzień upłynął pod znakiem lub raczej należałoby powiedzieć pod cieniem Jardim Botânico.
Narodowy ogród botaniczny a najbardziej opuszczony i zaniedbany spośród wszystkich jakie tutaj widziałam, a na domiar złego zdjęcia to potwierdzają.

This day was all about Jardim Botânico.
National botanic garden but the most abandoned and run-down of all that I've seen here and the worst part is that pictures confirm this.

To co mi się za to bardzo podobało to białe i czerwone hibiskusy.. to jedne z moich ulubionych kwiatów, a przy okazji herbatka równie pyszna :D
Kaktusy też były cudowne.. może to wynikać z tego, że po prostu u nas takich nie ma.. :P

What I really liked were white and red hibiscus flowers.. they are one of my favorites.. and by the way the tea is delicious as well :D
Cactuses were also lovely.. may be due to the fact that in Poland they are not so common :P

V - Lisbon - Baixa - Around Triumphal Arch

Niedaleko Praça da Figueira jest jeszcze większy plac również z wojownikiem na koniu – tym razem królem Józefem I. Plac ten nazywa się Praça do Comércio – plac handlowy.

Tutaj stał pałac królewski zanim nastąpiło trzęsienie ziemi z 1755r. Wyrządziło ono ogromne szkody co jest mniej lub bardziej widoczne w całej Lizbonie.
Król Józef I nie był zbytnio zainteresowany rządzeniem.. zdecydowanie bardziej preferował sprawy religijne i operę tak więc przekazał władzę wykonawczą w ręce nie kogo innego jak Sebastião José de Carvalho e Melo, który zapisał się w historii jako markiz de Pombal.

Not so far from Praça da Figueira is even bigger square where in the middle stands warrior on a horse – King Joseph I. The square is called Praça do Comércio – Market Square. Here once stood the royal palace before the earthquake from 1755.

King Joseph I wasn't too interested in politics. He was definitely more into religious affairs and opera so he gave the executive power in the hands of Sebastião José de Carvalho e Melo, who made history as the Marquis de Pombal.

Łuk Triumfalny – Arco da Rua Augusta – przy wejściu na plac jest prześliczny. Wyrzeźbione są na nim personifikacje Chwały, Pomysłowości i Męstwa a także znajdują się Viriatus, Nuno Álvares Pereira, Vasco da Gama i oczywiście nie mogło by zabraknąć Markiza de Pombal.

The Triumphal Arc – Arco da Rua Augusta – at the entrance to the square is beautiful. Carved with Glory, Ingenuity and Bravery sculptures. You can also admire Viriatus, Nuno Álvares Pereira, Vasco da Gama, and of course the one that could not have been missed – Marquis de Pombal.

IV - Lisbon - Alfama - Praça da Figueira

Portugalczycy chyba mają jakieś kompleksy przestrzeni bo ich place są ogromne. To słowo warto podkreślić: OGROMNE. Niestety zdjęcia chyba tego dobrze oddać nie potrafią.

Pierwszy plac jaki miałyśmy okazję zobaczyć w Baixa był z pomnikiem króla Jana I Dobrego na koniu – Praça da Figueira – plac drzewa figowego. Plac został przebudowany po wielkim trzęsieniu ziemi w 1755r.

Portuguese people probably have some complexes regarding space because their city squares are huge. It’s worth emphasizing: HUGE. Unfortunately, I think that the pictures cannot truly show that.

The first place we had the opportunity to see in Baixa was square with the monument of King John I the Good on horseback – Praça da Figueira – fig tree square. The square was rebuilt after a severe earthquake in 1755.

III - Lisbon - Alfama - São Jorge Castle

Następnie wyruszyłyśmy zwiedzać Castelo de São Jorge.
Zamek został odziedziczona po Maurach. Była to wówczas cytadela, którą przystosowano na rezydencję królewską.

Then we decided to visit Castelo de São Jorge.
The castle was inherited from the Moors. It was then the citadel, which was adapted for a royal residence.

Jedyne co zostało z zamku to tak naprawdę mury obronne. W środku nie ma żadnych budynków, które można by zwiedzać – w sensie komnaty, pokoje itp. Mimo to wydaje mi się, że warto poświęcić czas i tam zawędrować.

The only thing that is left of the castle are walls. Inside there are no buildings that can be visited – in the sense of the rooms, chambers, etc. However, it seems that it's worth taking the time and wander around there a bit.
