VI - Bogotá - Plaza de Bolívar [part 1]

I tak oto przechodzimy do najważniejszego placu miasta i zarazem osobowości Kolumbii jakim był Simón Bolívar. Jego pełne imię jest superancko długie (sprawdźcie sobie na Wikipedii). Z pochodzenia Wenezuelczyk odegrał kluczową rolę w historii walk o niepodległość w całej Ameryce Łacińskiej. Był twórcą pierwszej unii latynoamerykańskiej – po pokonaniu imperium hiszpańskiego – która się nazywała Wielką Kolumbią – tereny obecnej Kolumbii, Wenezueli, Ekwadoru i Panamy. Doprowadził wiele krajów regionu do niepodległości. Za swojego życia był prezydentem Wielkiej Kolumbii, Boliwii i Peru. Prawie w każdym mieście najważniejszy plac nosi jego imię.

And so we've reached the most important square of the city and also the personality of Colombia which was Simón Bolívar. His full name is incredibly long (if you want check on Wikipedia). Born in Venezuela; played a key role in the history of the war for independence in Latin America. He was the visionary who created the first Latin American Union – after the defeat of the Spanish Empire – which was named the Great Colombia – currently the land of Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador and Panama. He led many countries in the region to independence. During his lifetime he was the president of Gran Colombia, Bolivia and Peru. Almost every main city square is named after him.

Na środku stoi (niestety upstrzony graffiti), pomnik z brązu Simóna Bolívara odlany w 1846r. przez włoskiego artystę Pietro Tenerani. To był również pierwszy pomnik jaki postawiono w Bogocie. Obecnie plac nie ma nic wspólnego z czasami kolonialnymi – jedynie Capilla del Sagrario datuje się na czasy hiszpańskie.

In the middle is placed (unfortunately covered in graffiti), a bronze statue of Simón Bolívar cast in 1846. by Italian artist Pietro Tenerani. It was also the first monument which was erected in Bogotá. Currently square has nothing to do with the colonial times.. nothing has left – only Capilla del Sagrario dates back to the Spanish times.

Plac jest ulokowany w sercu historycznej części miasta. Po stronie północnej stoi budynek Sądu Najwyższego. Po stronie południowej możemy podziwiać budynek Kongresu – Sejm. Od zachodu plac graniczy z Edificio Liévano, w którym urzęduje burmistrz Bogoty a od wschodu z Katedrą i Świętą Kaplicą. Za tydzień będzie o tym szerzej :)

The square is located in the heart of the historic part of the city center. On the north side there is located building of the Supreme Court. On the south side you can admire the Congress building. From the west is visible Edificio Liévano, which is the office of Bogotá’s mayor and from the east you can see the Cathedral and the Holy Chapel. Stay tuned for more -> next week:)
